India’s first cantilever glass bridge built in Kerala

P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister, Kerala, recently said that activities related to adventure tourism will give a major enhancement to the tourism sector of the state.

After inaugurating the recently built cantilever glass bridge, he was speaking to the press on Wednesday. This bridge is touted to be the largest in India, and adventure park at Wagamon in Idukki. Mr. Riyas mentioned that activities related to adventure tourism were getting popular in world tourism. The minister also explained that it’s a matter of pride that the largest cantilever glass bridge of the country is in Kerala.

As part of the efforts to grow tourism destinations, the project is being executed by investing 60% of the tourism department cost and the remaining by the local body. At Wagamon, measures will be adopted to create a toilet complex, said Mr. Riyas.

The glass bridge has been set up in the mode of public-private partnership by the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council in collaboration with Bharat Mata Ventures Private Limited, according to the official statement. At a time, around fifteen people can get on this glass bridge. At the maximum, they will be
permitted to spend 5-10 minutes on the bridge. Visitors can view the Koottikkal, Kokkayar areas from the bridge.
