Altamonte Springs has achieved a significant milestone as its annual “Light Up the Holidays” event secured the eighth position in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest for the Best Public Lights Display. This recognition underscores the city’s commitment to delivering a cherished and meaningful community tradition, earning the trust and appreciation of both residents and visitors.

Frank Martz, City Manager of Altamonte Springs, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This is a tremendous honor for our city. ‘Light Up the Holidays’ is an exceptional celebration that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The accolade was made possible through the support and votes of the local community, prompting the city’s leadership and staff to extend their gratitude to everyone who contributed to Altamonte Springs becoming a premier holiday destination.

The official kickoff of the Light Up the Holidays display is marked by an annual event featuring family-friendly activities, vendors, performances, and a ceremonial switch-flipping to illuminate over 200,000 LED lights. The excitement is palpable as the lights come to life, accompanied by fireworks synchronized to festive tunes, creating a mesmerizing display in the night sky. The event, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Duke Energy, Emerson International, and AdventHealth, is open to the public, emphasizing inclusivity and community spirit.

Cranes Roost Park, the symbolic heart of the city and host to the holiday decorations, provides a picturesque setting for the festivities. Throughout the year, residents enjoy the park’s state-of-the-art facilities, including scenic walking loops, weekly fitness classes, wildlife observation, fishing, and unique artisan events.
