The Mob Museum, also known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is pleased to unveil its forthcoming public programs and events scheduled for February. Among these events are the much-anticipated 12th-anniversary free day and a special program in honor of Black History Month.

12th Anniversary FREE Day: The Tommy Guns of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and the Shots Heard Round the World ​

  • Date: Wednesday, Feb. 14
  • Time: The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring the Tommy gun display from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Las Vegas Cadillac Club Car Show from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Vitalant Blood Donation from noon to 4 p.m., Frank Calabrese Jr.’s Family Secrets speaking appearance from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and The Goodfellas Grill food truck available from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Location: The Mob Museum
  • Cost: Free admission for Nevada residents with an I.D. and buy-one, get-one admission for non-residents.
  • Description: Guests are cordially invited to the Museum’s 12th-anniversary celebration, featuring free admission for Nevada residents and buy-one, get-one admission for non-residents. The highlight of the day includes an exclusive showcase of the two Thompson submachine guns used in the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre on February 14, 1929. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with members of the Berrien County, Michigan, Sheriff’s Department, who will share insights and discuss the historical significance of the firearms. Other artifacts related to the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre from the Museum’s extensive collection will also be on display, offering a captivating glimpse into this pivotal moment in history. Reformed mobster Frank Calabrese Jr. will be present to share his life story within the Chicago Outfit and his collaboration with federal law enforcement to dismantle the criminal organization. The anniversary celebration will be complemented by a display of historic vehicles by the Las Vegas Cadillac Club, a blood drive hosted by Vitalant Blood Donation, and food for purchase from The Goodfellas Grill.

In Pursuit of Justice: An Interview with Jason Frierson, Nevada’s First Black U.S. Attorney

  • Date: Thursday, Feb. 22
  • Time: 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor.

  • Description: In recognition of Black History Month, this event will feature an interview with Jason Frierson, Nevada’s first Black U.S. attorney. Confirmed in April 2022, Frierson leads the District of Nevada as the chief federal law enforcement officer. The interview, conducted by Professor Frank Rudy Cooper of UNLV’s Boyd School of Law, will delve into Frierson’s journey, perspectives on current criminal justice issues in Nevada, and more. The program is sponsored by the Las Vegas National Bar Association and The Mob Museum, with additional support from the NV Energy Foundation.

Speakers:

  • Jason Frierson is the United States attorney for the District of Nevada. He was nominated by President Biden on Nov. 15, 2021, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Apr. 27, 2022. Frierson is the chief federal law enforcement officer for the District of Nevada and the first Black American to hold the position. Frierson leads a team of more than 100 prosecutors and staff professionals with offices located in Las Vegas and Reno.
  • Professor Frank Rudy Cooper is a William S. Boyd professor of law and director of the Program on Race, Gender and Policing. He is a highly rated teacher of criminal procedure: investigation, criminal procedure theories, civil rights, criminal law and identities and culture and law. He was awarded three Derek Bok Center teaching awards while serving as a teaching assistant to professors Cornel West, Juliet Schor and Laurel Thatcher Ulrich at Harvard University.
