Hornbill Festival 2023 Starts at Naga heritage village Kisama, Nagaland

Concurrent with the celebration of Nagaland Statehood Day, the 24th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2023 is set to commence today at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama. The United States of America, Germany, and Colombia serve as Country Partners, with Assam participating as the Partner State for this year’s edition. The opening ceremony of the 10-day festival is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM in Kisama.
The inaugural function will be graced by distinguished guests, including Ambassador of the USA to India, Eric Garcetti; British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis; Ambassador of Colombia to India, Dr. Victor Echeverri Jaramillo; and German Consul General Kolkata, Barbara Voss. Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will act as the Chief Host and Host, respectively, while Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, will serve as the Co-Host. The opening ceremony will feature the Call of the Hornbill Festival by Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA).
The main Hornbill stage will showcase performances by 40 bands and acts, comprising 800 artists throughout the festival’s duration. Bands from Germany, the USA, Colombia, South Korea, prominent names in the Indian music scene, as well as local talents from Nagaland and the Northeast, will participate.
A special exhibition featuring the Mithun, the state animal, and Tenyi Vo, a native breed of pig from rural Nagaland, will be held for the first time. Additionally, the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission will launch the first ‘Bee tourism’ to showcase the state’s rich beekeeping tradition and unique practices.
Highlights of the 10-day festival include daily performances by 18 cultural troupes, the sale of locally made products, handloom & handicrafts, artworks, Agri & allied exhibits, horticulture displays, traditional stone-pulling ceremonies, film festivals, photo fests, off-road events, night carnivals, Dzukou experiences, village or heritage walks, kids’ carnivals, sports festivals, and more. Extended events of the Hornbill Festival in locations like Khezhakeno, Zunheboto, Doyang, and Peren are also being held simultaneously.
