In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance event experiences, BMA House has launched the “History of BMA House Tour.” This unique offering enriches evening gatherings by immersing attendees in the venue’s rich historical significance. Our historic London venue serves as a stunning backdrop for a variety of events, including conferences, parties, weddings, awards ceremonies, and meetings. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911, this Grade II listed building has been home to the British Medical Association since 1925. Recently updated with state-of-the-art AV facilities, our spaces provide an inspiring environment for guests to meet, work, and mingle. Additionally, BMA House boasts two large outdoor areas – an impressive Courtyard and a tranquil botanical Garden – a rare find in such a central location. Nestled in the heart of London, BMA House offers excellent transport links and a variety of spaces including the Courtyard, Garden, Great Hall, and Prince’s Room, not to mention the building’s incredible façade, which provides a fantastic backdrop.
The integration of a historical tour, delivered by the BMA Archive team, into events – particularly evening receptions and dinners – can significantly enhance attendee engagement, enrich learning opportunities, and potentially boost attendance due to the unique value-added experience.
The tour is available in two tailored formats to suit different event sizes and preferences:
- Intimate Walking Tour: For groups of fewer than 50, this 30-minute tour guides guests through significant locations such as the Great Hall, Snow and Paget rooms, the Courtyard, and the Garden, culminating with a visit to the Prince’s room, which has notable Royal connections.
- Presentation for Larger Groups: For larger groups, a 15-minute presentation covers the storied past of BMA House and its notable figures, including connections to icons like Charles Dickens and members of the Royal Family. This presentation can be customized to align with the specific event space being used.
The “History of BMA House Tour” is designed to make every event extraordinary by offering guests a deeper connection to the venue’s prestigious past. This opportunity to learn about such a historically significant place will not only enhance the event experience but also inspire greater engagement and attendance.
As an award-winning, sustainable venue, BMA House is committed to supporting clients in understanding the carbon emissions associated with their events as they transition to net zero. In collaboration with Planet Mark, BMA House now offers a complimentary carbon calculator tool designed to estimate the emissions associated with holding events at the venue.
These tours are designed to take place before guests are seated for dinner or during a drinks reception.
Royal Visits Highlighted in the Tours:
- King George V’s inauguration of BMA House on 13 July 1925.
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s 1959 visit for his installation as President of the BMA.
- The Prince of Wales’s (now King Charles) 1982 visit during his election as President of the BMA on its 150th anniversary.
- Princess Diana’s opening of the new library (today’s Great Hall) in 1986.
- The Princess Royal’s unveiling of the newly refurbished Great Hall in 2008.
International travel expert, Mr. Anup Keshan, praises the venue, stating, “It’s a fantastic venue, a real hidden gem in central London, and the fact that we had the whole place to ourselves really made the day!”
