In collaboration with Visit West, West Midlands Growth Company, and London & Partners, VisitBritain is welcoming journalists from a host of countries including Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) nations, India, Norway, South Korea, and Spain. These journalists are set to explore unique film and television experiences available exclusively in Britain.
Anticipating new film debuts, the visitors will explore iconic sites like the Black Country Living Museum, a key location for “Peaky Blinders”. They’ll also enjoy a musical walking tour of Bath inspired by “Bridgerton” and travel across London in classic Mini Coopers, visiting scenes from “Bridget Jones”. These activities form part of a rich itinerary over a five-day visit from 22-26 September.
VisitBritain CEO Patricia Yates said:
“We are delighted to host media from around the world in the lead up to our international ‘Starring GREAT Britain’ marketing campaign, harnessing the powerful pull of set-jetting trend to boost visitor spending to Britain. Shining the spotlight on film-and-TV experiences encourages more visitors to come to explore our amazing destinations, putting themselves in the picture.
From exploring our vibrant cities and stunning countryside, the backdrop for so many iconic filming locations, to sampling our world-class dining and accommodation, the group will experience firsthand the destinations that are the real star of the show, encouraging more visitors to book a trip right now.”
Launching in early 2025, VisitBritain’s ‘Starring GREAT Britain’ campaign aims to promote film locations seen in various movies and TV shows to encourage more tourists to visit, explore, and extend their stay in Britain, thereby boosting local economies.
According to recent studies by VisitBritain, film tourism is an influential factor in travel decisions. A staggering ninety-one percent of potential tourists from 20 different countries expressed interest in visiting locations famous for their film and TV appearances during their UK vacations.
This year, VisitBritain predicts that international visitors will contribute approximately £32.5 billion to the UK economy, marking a 5% increase from 2023. Furthermore, the UK is expected to attract 38.7 million visits, a 2% increase from the previous year’s 38 million visits.
