Ras Al Khaimah Art, the year-long cultural initiative supporting both established and emerging talents, has unveiled the details of the upcoming Ras Al Khaimah Art 2024 Festival. The festival is scheduled to open to the public on Friday, February 2nd, 2023, at 9pm, at the Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village.
Curated by the acclaimed Alfio Tommasini and centered around the theme of ‘In Motion,’ the Ras Al Khaimah Art 2024 Festival, presented by Aldar, promises to offer an immersive and sensory cultural experience. The event aims to bridge heritage and modernity through a carefully curated showcase featuring over 100 diverse artists, along with engaging masterclasses, public talks, and live performances.
Reflecting on the festival’s theme, Tommasini commented, “In Motion challenges the notion of a new ‘normal’ and invites you to embrace the continuous evolution of our diverse world. From generative AI and NFTs to space exploration and environmental movements, our festival celebrates and critiques the power of motion and change, fostering dialogue among artists, authors, creatives, and the community.”
Introducing new elements for 2024, The Souq will be a contemporary art exhibition and market featuring artists and craftspeople from around the world. Additionally, Ephemeral Whispers, a captivating kinetic art installation on the Fort tower, symbolizes unity and the dynamic nature of human interactions in response to the theme ‘In Motion’ and the history of Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village. This installation blends contemporary and traditional materials, suspended like tapestries, serving as visual metaphors for the rich heritage and experiences facilitated by marketplaces throughout history.
Apart from the curated exhibitions, the 12th edition of the festival will offer interactive experiences and live performances. Visitors can explore their creativity through a range of artistic workshops, including wire knitting, resin ocean art, photography, and ceramics. Dynamic musical experiences, stand-up comedy, and various artistic performances will be featured on Live Performance Saturdays. Engaging discussions on culture, innovation, and sustainability will be part of a six-part speaker series, while Friday Film Nights will showcase thought-provoking documentaries and captivating narratives from award-winning directors.
Food enthusiasts will find delight in the return of the award-winning cultural heritage dining experience, Antica Australis. With specially curated four-course set menus featuring local organic produce from Ras Al Khaimah, Australian native ingredients, and Emirati flavors, Antica Australis will host a limited series of lunch and dinner events from Saturday, February 3rd, to Sunday, February 18th, 2024.
