Dubai saw a significant rise in public transport and shared mobility usage in 2023, with 702 million riders, up 13% from 2022, averaging 1.92 million daily users.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Metro services at three stations will resume earlier than initially planned. Onpassive, Equiti, and Mashreq stations are set to reopen on May 19, 2024.

The total number of public transport and shared mobility passengers in Dubai reached approximately 702 million in 2023, marking a 13 percent increase from the 621.4 million recorded in 2022. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported an average daily ridership of 1.92 million for public transport, shared mobility, and taxis in 2023, compared to 1.7 million in 2022.

The Energy Metro Station is scheduled to return to service the following week.

These four Metro stations were closed following heavy rains that struck the emirate in mid-April. The RTA had previously indicated that normal operations would resume by May 28.

The Metro was disrupted by a severe storm on April 16, which brought the heaviest rainfall the UAE had seen in 75 years.

Onpassive, Equiti, Mashreq, and Energy Metro stations will reopen once all maintenance and safety tests are completed to ensure they are “ready to operate at the highest standards and efficiency.”

The RTA confirmed that a series of operational tests have been conducted to ensure the efficiency of the Metro stations and their facilities, including platform doors, lifts, escalators, and other service amenities.

To facilitate passenger travel and ensure the integration of various mobility modes across Dubai, the RTA will continue to provide metro feeder bus services to the stations, with schedules aligned to the Metro’s operating hours.
