Cambodia Introduces New E-Immigration Process Starting 1st July 2024
Effective from July 1, 2024, Cambodia will transition to a new e-immigration process, replacing the traditional paper-based system. This shift aims to streamline and modernize the arrival experience for travelers entering Cambodia. All arrivals must complete the e-immigration application before proceeding to the immigration counter. Paper immigration documents will no longer be accepted.
Visa Requirements Unchanged
It's important to note that this new e-immigration process does not alter the existing visa requirements. Travelers are still required to obtain a visa for entry into Cambodia. The change pertains solely to the replacement of paper forms previously needed for immigration formalities and customs declarations with a digital system.
E-Immigration Process Overview
Application Requirement
- Every individual entering Cambodia must complete the e-immigration application online.
- The new e-arrival card will replace the paper immigration form, health form, and customs declaration.
- This digital form must be completed within seven days before arrival. Registration outside this window is not permitted.
- If not completed prior to arrival, travelers will need to use tablets provided in the arrivals hall to complete the e-immigration application before approaching the immigration counter.
- The questions on the online application mirror those on the former paper immigration form.
- There is no charge for completing the e-arrival immigration process.
E-Immigration App
The e-immigration application can be completed via the dedicated app, available on Google Play, the iOS App Store, or through the website https://arrival.gov.kh/
Registration Process
- Download and Register: Travelers must first download the app or visit the website and register, which involves taking or uploading a photo and a passport page image.
- Visa on Arrival Option: Travelers can choose to apply for an e-visa on arrival through the app. It is recommended to secure an e-visa separately in advance or use the Fast Track Visa service.
- Travel Information: Input details such as the date of arrival and departure (the departure date does not need to be exact), travel purpose (e.g., tourism), mode and type of transport, airline, and flight number.
- Accommodation Information: Enter the name and city of the hotel (full address not required).
- Embarkation and Next City: Fill in the embarkation city and next city fields.
- Health and Customs Declarations: Complete the required health and customs declarations.
- Upon completion, a QR code will be generated, which should be saved or screenshot for reference. This QR code will be retrievable in the app without an internet connection.
Important Considerations
- The Fast Track Visa service remains available. However, travelers using this service must still complete the e-immigration process before arrival or with assistance from immigration officers using tablets provided in the arrivals hall.
- The e-arrival immigration application can only be processed within seven days before arrival.
- Travelers should ensure they have the e-arrival QR code saved on their phone. While the QR code itself might not be scanned, it may be requested for verification purposes as all details are stored in the system.
Conclusion
The introduction of the e-immigration process in Cambodia marks a significant step towards a more efficient and modernized immigration system. By replacing paper forms with a digital application, the country aims to enhance the convenience and speed of the arrival process for all travelers.
